March 2019

Spring has sprung and my year as Mayor is almost at an end.  Over recent weeks we have been busy with the usual council meetings and community engagements.

On March 1st We supported the Charity coffee morning hosted by Cath Thomas and Merched y Wawr followed by a Barn Dance in Atlantic College St Donat’s to raise money for The Vale in Africa Charity.

On the 2nd.  of March we hosted our own Mayor’s St David’s Day+1 Coffee morning with entertainment supplied by the choir Meibion y Machlud.  An evening Dinner with the Monday Gateway Club was a great occasion enjoyed by all. A special thank you to Emily our host for the evening and to all the volunteers who give up their time and energy to provide a fun packed programme for people with learning disabilities throughout the year. We also attended a performance of ‘The Ruby Slipper’ by the High Voltage Drama Company in Dinas Powys, a drama group for people with learning disability and it was great to see Emily again on stage taking an enthusiastic part in the production.

We attended the Cwlwm Celtaidd Event in Porthcawl and supported a Fair-Trade Breakfast hosted by AM Jane Hutt.

Madelaine’s Project aimed at helping those with dementia and carers was held in the Bear Hotel  where a range of organisations were able to promote the advice and support available.  It was good to be there to hear first hand the exciting things that are happening.

It was a pleasure to open the U3A event held in the lesser hall which promoted the wide range of activities on offer through the organisation. We signed up as new members and are looking forward to attending and taking part in some of the events and activities.  New fitness equipment was placed in the Bear Field and it was good to be able to officially open this small trail which offers some healthy exercise opportunities.

At the beginning of this month we held the Mayor’ Ball in the St Quentin’s Suite to raise money for our nominated charities. Local traders and businesses were very supportive, and we would like to thank them for their contributions to the raffle prizes. Our thanks to a group of very talented musicians from Cowbridge Comprehensive who school provided the pre-dinner jazz music which was warmly appreciated by everyone.  Also, we would like to say a big thank you to those who attended the Ball and were very generous in their support. It was good to see the Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan and some fellow councillors from Cowbridge and across the vale in attendance.

I look forward to my last few weeks as mayor before handing over to the next mayor on the 21st of May.

Mae'r gwanwyn wedi dod ac mae fy mlwyddyn fel maer bron ar ben.  Dros yr wythnosau diwethaf rydym wedi bod yn brysur gyda’r cyfarfodydd arferol y Cyngor ac ymrwymiadau cymunedol.

Ar Fawrth 1af.  Cefnogwyd y bore coffi elusennol a drefnwyd gan Cath Thomas a merched y Wawr ac  wedyn mynychu dawns ysgubor yng Ngholeg yr Iwerydd St Donat i godi arian i elusen y Fro yn Affrica.

Ar yr ail  o Fawrth cawsom bore coffi y maer ein hunain - Dydd Gwyl Dewi+1 gydag adloniant gan gôr Meibion y Machlud.  Roedd cinio gyda'r nos gyda Chlwb Gateway yn achlysur arbennig a fwynhawyd gan bawb.  Diolch yn arbennig i Emily ein gwesteiwr am y noson ac i'r holl wirfoddolwyr sy'n rhoi o'u hamser a'u hegni i ddarparu rhaglen lawn hwylus i bobl ag anableddau dysgu drwy gydol y flwyddyn.  Buom hefyd yn bresennol mewn perfformiad o ' the Ruby Slipper ' gan gwmni drama ‘High Voltage’ yn Ninas Powys, grŵp drama i bobl ag anabledd dysgu ac roedd yn wych gweld Emily eto ar lwyfan yn cymryd rhan frwdfrydig yn y cynhyrchiad.

Buom yn bresennol yn nigwyddiad Celtaidd cwlwm ym Mhorthcawl a cefnogi brecwast masnach deg a gynhaliwyd gan Jane Hutt.

Braf oedd cael bod yng ngwesty Y Bear i glywed am prosiect Madelaine  sydd wedi'i anelu at helpu y rhai â dementia a gofalwyr.  Roedd y sesiwn wedi’i mynychu gan ystod o sefydliadau sy'n gallu darparu cyngor a chymorth.  A braf hefyd i glywed yn uniongyrchol am y pethau cyffrous sy'n digwydd.

Roedd yn bleser cael agor y digwyddiad gan U3A a gynhaliwyd yn y neuadd leiaf i hyrwyddo'r ystod eang o weithgareddau a oedd ar gael drwy'r sefydliad.  Ymrwymon ni fel aelodau newydd ac rydym yn edrych ymlaen at fynychu a chymryd rhan mewn rhai o'r digwyddiadau a'r gweithgareddau.  Mae offer ffitrwydd newydd wedi  cael ei roi ym maes y Y Bear ac roedd yn dda i allu agor yn swyddogol y llwybr bach hwn, sy'n cynnig rhai cyfleoedd ymarfer corff iach.

Ar ddechrau'r mis hwn cynhaliom ' Ball ' yn stafell St Quentin i godi arian i'r elusennau a enwebwyd gennym. Mae masnachwyr a busnesau lleol wedi bod yn gefnogol iawn, a hoffwn ddiolch iddyn nhw am eu cyfraniadau i'r gwobrau raffl.  Hefyd hoffwn roi  ein diolch i grŵp o fyfyrwyr talentog iawn o'r ysgol gyfun a darparwyd  gerddoriaeth cyn cinio a werthfawrogwyd yn gynnes gan bawb.  Hefyd, hoffem ddweud diolch yn fawr i'r rhai a fynychodd y Ball a oedd hefyd yn hael iawn eu cefnogaeth.  Yr oedd yn dda gweld Arglwydd Raglaw De Morgannwg a rhai o gyd-gynghorwyr o'r Bont-faen ac ar draws y Fro yn bresennol.

Edrychaf ymlaen at fy wythnosau olaf fel maer cyn trosglwyddo’r awenau I’r maer nesaf ar yr 21ain o Fai.
