Mayor's Report for February

My duties since the Christmas break have been varied and inspiring. I attended a presentation by Welsh Hearts , a charity, whose aim is to install defibrillators in as many locations in Wales as possible, and to train members of the public in the use of these life-saving machines. There are several defibrillators in various locations in Cowbridge including the Town Hall.

Woody's Lodge is a project based in HMS Cambria, Sully which offers support to the Armed Forces and Emergency Service Veterans. I was invited to attend a presentation sponsored by Jane Hutt AM at the Senedd on a lovely sunny day which showed the Senedd building off to its best.

In January I attended a private viewing of the Holocaust Memorial Exhibition entitled "How can life go on ?" hosted by the Vale of Glamorgan Arts Development in Barry. This was a very sobering experience and highlighted the plight of the gypsy communities of Central Europe under the Nazi regimes. In a lighter vain, I was asked by the Cowbridge Guide group to judge the "Bake a Cake " competition and to present a prize to the winner. It was a difficult choice to make as all the cakes were delicious! Later I presented badges to newly enrolled members of the group.

I also presented prizes to the winners of the Creative Writing Competition held in the Old Hall . The winners read extracts from their successful entries!

The Mayor of Llantwit Major presented a Youth Music Concert in St Illtuds Church in aid of her chosen charities. We were entertained by a variety of musical performances given by young people of the Vale.

The Cowbridge Comprehensive production of the West End musical "Miss Saigon" was amazing for the showcasing of the many talents of students from the Vale. It was difficult to remember that we were in the school hall and not a West End Theatre! The singing , dancing, stage presentation and accompanying music were testimony to everyone involved.

Of course, I have held two of my regular coffee mornings in the Mayor's Parlour in aid of my chosen charity The Forget Me Not Chorus. The next coffee morning is on Saturday 4Th March 10.30-12.30. I would be delighted to welcome new faces to these events and share the home made cakes and coffee!! Don't be afraid to pop in!

On Friday April 28th I will be holding a Charity Dinner Dance at the St Quentins Suite, Bear Hotel in aid of my chosen charity . This also coincides with the conclusion of my year of office. Posters promoting this event will appear in the town this week and I would welcome support from the people of Cowbridge for what I hope will turn out to be an enjoyable and convivial evening of dining and dancing.
