VJ Day 2020

Message from the Mayor

15 August 2020 was the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day, marking both the surrender of Japan and the end of the Second World War.

The event was marked in Cowbridge by a short service outside the Town Hall in front of the war memorial. This was arranged by the Royal British Legion Cowbridge and District Branch and conducted by Ian Thomas the Branch Padre. Prayers and a reading by Peter Davies Branch Treasurer were followed by the Act of Remembrance, The Last Post, a two minute silence, The Reveille and the VJ Day Cry.

Wreaths were laid by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Kevin Davies , the Mayor Councillor Siân Vaughan and Mike O'Hagan Vice Chair on behalf of the Royal British Legion. The Mayor's Chaplin the Rev Heather Weddell was present as were the Mayor's Consort Mr Robert Vaughan, Councillors G Baty and G J Baty.
