Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) marks the end of the Second World War, following Japan’s surrender on 15 August 1945. It brought an end to six years of global conflict, but also serves as a moment to reflect on the immense sacrifices made by the Armed Forces, civilians, and all those affected by the war in the Far East.
On Thursday 15 August at 10:00am, the Royal British Legion will hold a short, 20-minute gathering outside the Town Hall. As part of the commemoration, the Mayor will lay a wreath at the memorial in remembrance of those who served and those who never returned.
