This month, we honour Black British history and contributions, civil rights activism, and the legacy of Black service personnel in shaping our nation’s story.
Thousands of Black men and women from Africa, the Caribbean and the UK served in the British Armed Forces — including the British West Indies Regiment, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy — making vital contributions during both World Wars. The Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff were home to many multicultural hubs that played an important role in that shared history.
This year also marks 60 years since the UK’s first Race Relations Act (1965) — a milestone in the ongoing journey toward equality and racial justice.
